Makers Market

Joy Clifton June 28, 2020

Makers Market

On Sunday 5th July 2020 I will be taking part in the Makers Market from 10am.  I will be setting up a stall in my home and I will be sharing with everyone my original artwork, Fine Art Giclée Prints and Art Greeting Cards. This is all happening through Instagram and you can find me @joycliftonuk.  There will be lots of makers on the day selling their amazing work, you can browse using the #makersmarketfromhome.  I have a special promotion code of 10% for my original artwork and prints, the code is MAKERSMARKET. The code ends Sunday 5th July 2020 at 11:59pm. So grab a coffee and happy browsing, whilst staying safe in your own home and supporting lots of wonderful small businesses!

New Way of Looking

Joy Clifton June 21, 2020

After a few experiments in my sketchbook I decided to focus on a mini series of aerial paintings focusing on a surfer’s journey to catching a wave. It is such a refreshing viewpoint to tackle and has challenged me by having to consider what a figure would look like from above, how the water would be moving and how the sunlight would cast shadows. I was unsure how watercolour would work in this way but I have been pleasantly surprised how well it does and it really does compliment the fluidity of the ocean seen from above. I am planning to do more on surfers focusing on manoeuvres and possibly turn my attention to bodyboarders as well.

Sharing the Surf

Joy Clifton May 4, 2020

‘Sharing the Surf, Manta Ray’, is my new painting that explores the amazing ocean realm we get to visit that these beautiful giant Manta Rays call home. I have been lucky enough to dive with these beautiful creatures and it truly is a magical experience. Unfortunately Manta Rays suffer from the marine pollution we put in the sea as they are filter feeders. Plastics are causing our ocean so much harm. Hopefully we can all do our bit to help them by reducing our use of single use plastic and recycling.

Rolling into May

Joy Clifton May 4, 2020

I have just completed a new piece ‘Rolling Surf’ that I have spent a couple of weeks on and off producing due to the layering and the salt resist technique I used on the fizzing part of the wave and sea bed. This was a unique challenge due to the viewpoint underwater and the angle of the surf. I love the layers and the texture waves create as the break and barrel towards the shore. I worked on this during the April for Artists 2020 challenge.

April for Artists 2020

Joy Clifton April 21, 2020

‘Aqua Solace’ was inspired by dreaming of when I could return to the ocean as the UK is currently in lockdown. Watercolour and pencil on paper keep this artwork light and fluid. I love working in watercolour the fluidity of the paint and the organic way it blend and moves. I produced ‘Aqua Solace’ recently during the April for Artists 2020 challenge. I have been really enjoying taking part in the challenge and it has given me chance to develop my own practice and connect with other Artists around the world.
