I can't believe it has been a year since I started my indie business selling my Seascape Art. A lot has happened in this year and I have lots of plans on where I want to go next. The biggest and most important part of this is you and I want to tell you how thankful and grateful I am to have such wonderful collectors of my work whether its buying a painting, print or a card it is so appreciated and I normally do a little dance around the room!

Looking back over the year I completely embraced the new way of living and took my paintings online and got involved in lots of wonderful online markets with Makers Market from Home, Indie Roller, Shop Small Love Indie, Curated Makers and Duchy Fairs in Cornwall. It has been an absolute joy to do these and meet lots of wonderful people. I also have my work now stocked with Colour and Space Gallery in Cornwall and Inspire Makers are now stocking my cards.

Where now for Joy Clifton Seascape Art you might be wondering! I am working now on new products using fabrics which I will be launching in a few weeks. I am then hoping to be able to find further indie shops and galleries for my work in the next year. Another part of my work that I am hoping to grow is commissions of artwork for collectors and also brands. From the summer onwards I will have more time to be able to work on bespoke art pieces and bring your favourite seascapes and ocean adventures to life. New Era Exhibition

New Collection 'Sharing the Surf'

Welcome to my new collection ‘Sharing the Surf’. The new collection explores the positive and peaceful relationship we can have with marine life that inhabits the world’s oceans. There are seven new watercolour paintings in the series from different viewpoints. The marine life that I explore in each painting I have been lucky enough to see in the wild whether surfing or diving or from a boat. I explore how we can peacefully exist together and how we need to undo the damage we have done to their environment together.

I am donating 20% of all profit made on original paintings, prints and art greetings cards to Surfers Against Sewage who are a campaigning charity that inspires, unites and empowers communities to take action to protect oceans, beaches, waves and wildlife.

Makers Market Sunday 13th September 2020

I’m excited to announce I will be taking part in the Maker Market From Home on Sunday 13th August 2020 from 10am -5pm over on Instagram. New Way of Looking

After a few experiments in my sketchbook I decided to focus on a mini series of aerial paintings focusing on a surfer’s journey to catching a wave. It is such a refreshing viewpoint to tackle and has challenged me by having to consider what a figure would look like from above, how the water would be moving and how the sunlight would cast shadows. I was unsure how watercolour would work in this way but I have been pleasantly surprised how well it does and it really does compliment the fluidity of the ocean seen from above. I am planning to do more on surfers focusing on manoeuvres and possibly turn my attention to bodyboarders as well.

Rolling into May

I have just completed a new piece ‘Rolling Surf’ that I have spent a couple of weeks on and off producing due to the layering and the salt resist technique I used on the fizzing part of the wave and sea bed. This was a unique challenge due to the viewpoint underwater and the angle of the surf. I love the layers and the texture waves create as the break and barrel towards the shore. I worked on this during the April for Artists 2020 challenge.
